Lithographic Print entitled “Charge of the 24th and 25th Colored Infantry and rescue of Rough Riders at San Juan Hill,
July 2, 1898” dated 1899
This
print arrived at my studio in several pieces due to its advanced
brittleness. After photographing and documenting its condition, the
front and back were dry-cleaned to remove any surface dirt and then the
entire print was washed in preparation for lining onto a new support
paper. All pieces that had separated during shipping were
reintegrated during the lining process and once dry, further infilling of
any areas that were still missing was done using a variety of sympathetic
papers. After infilling, the missing areas were
inpainted to recreate damaged artwork and graphics and the finished
restoration was then encapsulated.
